Takoma Radio / WOWD and Smithsonian Folklife Festival co-present a Brazil in DC event at RhizomeDC. As we look forward to a program about Brazil at the 2020 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, we want to connect with people participating and interested in Brazilian music and culture in the DC area.

The Folklife Festival will host a round-table conversation - “bate-papo” - with leaders from several Brazilian cultural organizations - from capoeira, to samba, to maracatu. Participants include Brazilian jazz vocalist Elin, samba-dancer Sonia Pessoa of Festival Afro-Bahia, and WOWD’s own Roberto Tapia (Professor Hakim) of Roda Movements.

There will be activities for children, Brazilian appetizers, beer provided by AstroLab Brewery, and a chance to engage with fellow community members about Brazilian arts and culture.

Saturday, June 8 (2-5pm) - Rhizome DC, 6950 Maple St NW (near Takoma Metro)
