WOWD Celebrates Black History Month

WOWD celebrates and practices diversity in its programmers and its programming, and during February takes special note of the struggles and achievements of African-Americans.

GUITAR ARCADE - Patrick celebrates Black History Month with an all-soul episode (2/27)

HI-FI DINER - Lis plays selections from Analog Africa compilations, encompassing 60s through 80s Edo Funk, AfroFunk, AfroBeat, and more (2/13)

HIGH-N-LOW - Urbanowa plays Black alt- and indie-rock artists (2/27)

HOT SAUCE LOUNGE - DJ Special Sauce celebrates Black History Month by playing an hour of soulful covers of Beatles songs (2/2)

LOST TREASURES -DJ Bookish plays topical music by Black artists of past generations, from the blues to Vietnam  (2/18). DJ Mackie explores the legacy of two DC black-owned recording studios of the 1960s (2/25).

MUSICAL REMEDIES - Madona spotlights Afrofuturism and Afropunk (2/16)

RIDE WITH CLYDE - The DJ Driver curates a playlist based on the book And Still I Rise, a chronicle of modern Black history

RISE UP - Olivia features children’s music celebrating Black culture and artists (2/4)

ROOTS & WINGS - Becky honors the "godmother" of rock & roll, gospel-singing guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe (2/4), Chris will do a deep dive into the impact of Black artists on all genres of American Roots music (2/25).
