Announcing WOWD's New PD: BOB BOILEN
We are happy to announce that Bob Boilen will take over as WOWD's Program Director on June 1!
Bob is the creator of NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts and All Songs Considered, and he also directed All Things Considered for 18 years. He hosts My Tiny Morning Show on Wednesdays at 8AM.
Bob grew up in New York and moved to the Washington DC area as a teenager. He is a musician, formerly of Tiny Desk Unit, and he currently performs and records with his band Danger Painters, as a well as solo ambient projects, and the improv bands Fanoplane and Tight Socks. He is the author of the book Your Song Changed My Life in which he asked 35 artists - including Jimmy Page, David Byrne, Lucinda Williams, Ian MacKaye, and Smokey Robinson - about a song that changed their lives.
“After 35 years at NPR, it’s a thrill to be a part of community radio with a spirit of commitment and imagination that this station and its volunteers offer,” Boilen said.
Bob is very much looking forward to getting to know all of you. He will work alongside Steve until his retirement on May 31.
WOWD thanks Steve for his dedication and wishes him the very best. “Being WOWD’s Program Director these past six and a half years has been an honor,” said Steve. “This job was the culmination of my lifelong love affair with radio and my five decades DJing on community radio.” Listeners can still hear Steve every Tuesday at 8AM EST on Tuesday Morning Mix.
