Acclaimed singer-songwriter Barry Louis Polisar visited WOWD on Saturday, January 5th to talk about his 40+ year career recording music for “children of all ages.”
On Lost Treasures with DJ Mackie, Polisar spoke about his Montgomery County childhood, his musical influences, and his first performances while attending University of Maryland. He released his debut record, I Eat Kids, in 1975, while still an undergraduate. Over the next forty years, he released many more albums, wrote children's books, and hosted an Emmy Award-winning educational TV show called Field Trip. In 2007, his fame was boosted when his track “All I Want is You” was featured prominently in the film Juno.
“Barry Polisar is pretty much the gold standard for children’s music,” says Marc Minsker a.k.a. DJ Mackie. "His love of language, quick wit, and sardonic lyrics make his songs fun and accessible for both kids and adults.” During Polisar's visit to WOWD, he played songs live in-studio and spoke about his continual work performing in school systems locally and nationwide. Polisar’s website is www.barrylou.com. Through Jan. 18, you can hear a recording of his WOWD appearance at https://takomaradio.org/shows#/16573. For more children's programming on WOWD, tune into Rise Up and Robin's Radio, alternating Saturdays at 8:00 AM.
